Dear mom and dad, Right now is a scary time for everyone in Paris, tensions are high and I was even able to hear the gunshots when the Muslim extremists raided Charlie Hebdo’s headquarters. I am writing to let you know that I am okay, and there is nothing to worry about, but also to shed some light on the terrible act that was recently performed. This incident is due to Charlie habdo making multiple cartoons of Muhammad on their front cover. In Islamic religion it is “illegal” to create an image of Muhamad and that is the justification of the extremists. It’s funny though, you would think that in a free country with freedom of speech, freedom of press, and separate from religion these acts would never be committed, no matter what the justification is. Of course I understand it was offensive but, I believe, that the majority of the Islamic religion wouldn’t even dare kill an innocent man over a magazine print. I believe it was just a few separate Muslims that acted completely irrational. I am afraid there might be anti-Muslim backlash not only in Paris but around the whole world. My prayers go out to those who died in the attack and the Muslims that may be affected by the backlash. Sincerely from your loving son, Sacha D’amore
